What is Poetry ?
Everyone
can not become a poet by merely memorizing
hundreds of verses. A person may say few verses but he can not bring the
sensitiveness, thought, emotion, feelings, poetry is based upon. Feeling of
beauty of nature, emotion and depicting it through the words are hallmark of
poet and it is intrinsic. Williom Wordsworth said “ Poetry is the spontaneous
overflow of powerful emotion ….. recollected in tranquility.” Sameer was
tantamount of all characteristics on which a poet could have been defined. He
had feeling, emotion, sensitiveness that is why whenever he looked at the
beauty of nature, words in praise flow from his pen and it would get in form of
poetry. Whenever he looked at exploitation meted on someone words steeped in
tear would percolate on pages of diary. Daily happenings around him invoked his
sense which he reflected in his poetry. His revolutionary poems always got published
in college magazine, his imagination, radical thought have always been a topic
of discussion in the literary circle. He had fetched number of admirers in
college because of his poetry. Afsana Sehar was one of them.
Afsana
Sehar was a bit different from his admirers as she didn’t comment on his poetry
in college magazine rather she always sent mail appreciating Sameer’s poetry.
Her comments on his poetry gave him new inspiration. Bitterness in his writing
was taking a new shape of hope and happiness because of her beautiful comments.
Her writing was reflecting her imagination, her deep thought oozed out after reading
his poetry, her appreciation having pointed out a specific verses personified
her personality, her intelligence and her passion towards arts, he had interest
and gave sometime on it.. He imagined unseen Afsana Sehar through mails that She
always sent on his every creations since both couldn’t interact with each other
in college even after being students of same institution. An unseen face which Sameer
sees in her mails and which later is becoming an inspiration for his poetry.
One
evening Sameer lost his an invisible, an unseen admirer because of overflow of
his emotion, the act which boomeranged. The
evening was an occasion of Mushaira organized in college. Sameer in that
Mushaira also got an opportunity to read his creation in front of other poets and
fellow students. He thought that this was the right opportunity and occasion to
read his poem, interact face to face with staunch admirer Afsana albeit the face
he neither saw before nor could recognize in the crowd. He had captioned of his
poem “Afsana” His eye kept searching for her in crowd on the appreciation for
every couplet he recited. Sameer was happy, expecting that he would get mail in
appreciation of his poem from his honest and staunch critic, admirer but perhaps
that creation was his mistake. The verses he had written boomeranged.
Afsana
Sehar stopped sending mail barring last final mail in which she expressed her unhappiness
over the poem he read in Mushaira. She neither elaborated the reason of
unhappiness nor pointed out flaws in the verses.
Sameer
couldn’t understand the reason behind her sudden indifference. He asked himself
“Did his poem sacrilege her sanctity before her friends circle with whom she might
have disclosed her unseen friendship with him or is the result of overflow of
emotion that deviated him from the path She thought about him. How could Sameer
make her understand that he wrote that poem specifically in praise of her, in fact he had no intention
to hurt her but that was an acknowledgment of her role She played honing his
skill, rectifying his mistake, inspiring him to write innovative poetry.
With
the passage of time Sameer continued expressing his emotion time to time and
during this course he made many admirers of his poetry but he could not find
that meticulous comments, suggestions, appreciation what he got from her. His eye still look for those comments, letter
of appreciation which is now missing from inbox of his mail which could again
invigorate his poetry, could give new inspiration and new direction to poetry
then Sameer realizes, pacifies himself having thought that Afsana Sehar was
also like other beauties of nature She
came, shown her beauty, created emotion sensitiveness, feelings in him and departed giving a new feeling of
absence, a void perhaps she knew that by keeping herself away she would also be
able to fill new life in his poetry and Sameer will come out with a new
beautiful poem……….
Sameer
indeed wrote a poem and dedicated it to her but he finds himself alone when he
roams in college campus, he gets despaired when he doesn’t find unseen face
from his inbox of mail…….
