Resolution of New year - The Desire
Want
of basic needs in our life is not desire but aspiration beyond it and striving
for achieving is called desire. Definition of desire varies from person to
person similarly basic needs of an individual varies from the way one thinks
about oneself. We live in progressive society wherein the main target is to
make an environment where each and everyone either imparts his contribution in
the progress of the system he lives or
follows the way. Hence in this situation want doesn’t remain confined to the
basic needs rather everyone begins to think beyond. Therefore if one has any specific
desire for oneself it can not be termed improper but it needs to be seen whether
desire is able to satisfy the person even after achieving the specific desired
goal. In the materialistic environment it is not possible since one who has desire
doesn’t stop in pursuing in ones goal because accomplishment of one goal keeps
planting seeds of a new aspiration and of a new goal and it remains continue.
In
fact human’s aspiration to achieve a target also invigorate the concealed purpose
to make a system where he could vision not only his present and future but also
to make a platform for others to think about their own. Because life is name of
act and movement thereby one may be able to make not only ones own destiny but
pave the way for others by setting a target for oneself and the desire is first step of achievement of
that target as Napoleon Hill has said ‘ Desire: the starting point of all
achievement.’ Even though satisfaction is an antithesis of desire because the
more we desire, the more we get a feeling of dissatisfaction. Henry George in
his Progress and Poverty said “Man is the only animal whose desires increase as
they are fed; the only animal that is never satisfied.’
Desire
needs indefatigable courage, efforts and perseverance for its materialize because
even a bit of apathy and slackness in our attitude it invites dissatisfaction
within ourselves. William Blake said ‘He who desires but acts not,
breeds pestilence.’ Aspiration
to get impossible sometimes also take the people on the verge of dissatisfaction.
But this is also a fact that dissatisfaction also inspires us to take new
initiative and our this new initiative ultimately take us near to the moment of joy which is
not less than an achievement. Edward Counsel said in Maxims ‘Wants, like birds, flutter till they have
found a place of rest’ George Bernard Shaw said ‘As long as I have a want, I
have a reason for living. Satisfaction is death.’
Satisfaction
in life is an ultimate want for every one which desire hardly provide barring
few moments of joy and happiness. Although we can never get complete
satisfaction yet as G.B Shaw said ‘Desire gives reason for living.’ A
progressive society, beautiful world, new innovations etc are the result of human’s desire. Sometimes we
drift from the ethical path in search of materializing our desire even after
realizing the fact that complete satisfaction is impossible
Apart
from all there is also need of giving a thought on what Gautama
Buddha said ‘Whatsoever misfortunes
there are, here in this world or in the next, they all have their root in
Ignorance, and in the accumulation of Longing and Desire.’ And what a beutiful couplet on desire by Mirza Ghalib.
